1. Smeg BCC02
This sleek compact and striking machine, created by Milan-based company Deep Design combines the brand's retro aesthetic with the latest technology. It handles every step of the coffee-making process - from grinding beans and then tamping the beans into a puck to making milk into a texturing process and dispenses the correct volume - so you can create barista-quality hot drinks by pressing a button.
The machine also sports a stylish brushed aluminium front and comes in a variety of red, black or taupe, meaning it's easy to integrate into most kitchen designs. The machine is not without faults however. Many reviewers felt that it was a bit expensive for a cup-to- bean maker (and it doesn't come with an ice cube).
But there were also numerous positive reviews of the quality of the coffee as well as the ease of use of this machine. The digital display offers feedback and step-by-step instructions throughout the entire brewing procedure, helping you to make your drink perfect every time. It even allows you to tweak the grind size if it's not quite right. It's like having a personal barista at home (minus Harry Potter's invisibility cloak and Elon Musk's rocket-building abilities).
If you like milky drinks this model has a steam wand that's adjustable upwards and downwards to fit all drinking vessels, but not a Viking's drinking horn. We were awestruck by the speed and effectiveness of the frothing procedure, as well. It also produces a delicious espresso, with a fantastic crema and full flavor despite its compact size.
The BCC02 is an excellent all-rounder. It's quiet and efficient, and it offers great value for money at a price that is currently PS499. Its only real drawback is the fact that it doesn't offer the same degree of customization like some of the other bean-to-cups we've evaluated. It has a 15 bar pump instead of the typical 19 bars, which isn't as good to make high-quality espressos. This is a great machine for those who prefer their coffee dark and strong. Users have also reported being impressed by the speed of the machine. It is more efficient than other machine they've used. Another bonus is that it will alert you when one of its hoppers is almost empty, so that you don't get caught out by running out of your preferred drink.
The only thing that could be a problem for some people is the price tag. The machine isn't cheap, at nearly PS999. But, it's cheaper than similar Jura machines with the same features.
The Barista TS Smart is backed by an extensive warranty that provides two years of protection. This is more than the typical one-year warranty. It's a sign of confidence from the manufacturer. It also includes an cleaning tablet as well as a descaler, making it easy to stay on top of the machine's maintenance needs. This is a fantastic machine for those who want to buy a high-quality, versatile bean-to-cup machine at a low cost.
